Sometime during the first week of school, all 4th grade students will be given a spelling inventory (Words Their Way) test. This is the spelling/word study used by the fourth grade team. All students will be tested on words and their scores will determine their appropriate word study group. These groups are not necessarily based on the number of words spelled correctly, but rather the student's ability to use the correct beginnings, endings, affixes, within-word sounds, etc. These groups are flexible and inventories will be given three times a year.
